Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

At St. Jerome Church, we offer two distinct pathways for individuals seeking to join the Catholic Church: the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) and the process for Coming into Full Communion. These processes cater to the unique needs of both unbaptized individuals (Catechumens) and baptized Christians (Candidates) who wish to embrace the Catholic faith fully.

The RCIA process is designed for unbaptized individuals seeking initiation into the Catholic Church. Through a formation program, participants learn about the teachings, traditions, and practices of Catholicism. This journey culminates in the celebration of the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Eucharist, typically during the Easter Vigil.

On the other hand, the Coming into Full Communion process is specifically for baptized Christians who desire full communion with the Catholic Church. Candidates, as they are called, do not undergo baptism again but make a profession of faith. They participate in a formation program that focuses on deepening their understanding of Catholic teachings and practices. Candidates may be received into the Catholic Church during the Easter Vigil or on another Sunday, depending on their readiness and pastoral circumstances.

While there may be some shared aspects of preparation between Catechumens and Candidates, the programs are tailored to meet their specific needs. Candidates bring their prior Christian experiences and commitment to Jesus Christ into the formation process, making their journey toward full communion distinct from that of the unbaptized.

At St. Jerome Church, we provide a supportive and nurturing environment for both Catechumens and Candidates. Our dedicated team guides individuals through their respective journeys, ensuring they receive the formation and support necessary for a meaningful transition into the Catholic faith.

We encourage those interested in the RCIA or Coming into Full Communion processes to reach out to our office. By doing so, we can provide you with further details, answer any questions you may have, and help you embark on this transformative path. We eagerly anticipate the joyous celebrations that mark the reception of the sacraments and the warm welcome into our Catholic community.
