This weekend the Psalm books will be available in the sacristy for anyone who has signed up for one. Although the class/prayer experience will not begin until Friday, February 23

    </sup>

, you should start reading the Psalms now. There are two ways of doing this that might work. The first is suggested by a Carmelite priest, Fr. Roland Murphy. This method involves reading each Psalm carefully, even if, and especially if, you have to struggle with it. If you chose this first method, pg. xxii of the introduction suggests Psalms for various times and moods.

The second method is to do what I did, read all 150 Psalms, and identify those that speak to you. When I did it, I gave the ones I liked rankings of 7,8, 9 or 10. Then immerse yourself in the ones you have chosen. As you read the Psalm carefully, pay attention to your inner heart response to the words. Linger on lines, images, or phrases that speak to you either positively or negatively.

Pope John Paul II is quoted in the Introduction with this valuable insight, “It would be no less interesting to go over the Psalms and consider the various sentiments of the human heart expressed in them: joy, gratitude, thanksgiving, love, tenderness, enthusiasm, but also intense suffering, complaints, pleas for help and for justice, which sometimes lead to anger and imprecation. In the psalms the human being fully discovers himself.” (pg. x).

Which ever method you chose, get underneath the words to the human emotions and experiences and connect them to your own life.

Finally, we will spend the five sessions trying to enter the worldview of those ancient poets and prayers. There is a brief handout by Paulist Fr. Lawrence Boadt that explains the different kinds of psalms. Look for a category that interests you and try it out.

This Lent St. Jerome parishioners will have a chance to immerse themselves in the world of the Psalms. They are an ancient form of poetry used to create individual and communal prayers. They break open all our emotions and human experiences to leave room for the Lord to enter. Back in October, I started reading the whole 150 Psalms from beginning to end. I am ashamed to say that I ranked each one on a scale from one to ten for personal impact. I then concentrated on those marked 7 or above and prayed over them. Next, I began reading commentaries on the psalms as a whole and on the individual psalms that I had marked. Then, to my surprise, once I had entered fully into the worldview of those ancient writers, which is different than ours, I found many more psalms moved up in my rankings.

I think that what happened to me allowed me to see this truth from Martin Luther, who in his commentary on psalm 12 said this: “None of you can pray a psalm if you have not made the words of the psalm your own. But they will then be your own when you have the same feeling and the same spirit in which the words were said. If you pray without this, you resemble those who play a role in a comedy, where the action takes place with proper words, but with a reality that is artificial.”

If you would like to learn to pray the psalms, sign up in the hallway for a small book of all 150 Psalms. It is free, but we will accept donations. Then starting on Friday February 23 and for the next five Fridays we will have a group study. The morning session will be after the 9am Mass and the evening session will be with our traditional Lenten Soup and Bread Suppers. Both sessions will offer the same material.

Next weekend we will welcome our new leader, Fr. Declan Creighton, who will be at all the Masses. This is a parish where the people love their priests. In no time at all, you will come to love him and he you.

and bring to you news of great joy! We have a pastor! Bishop Caggiano has appointed Fr. Declan Creighton as our administrator for 6 months after which he will have the opportunity to become pastor. I have met Fr. Declan, and he is delightful, with a lovely Irish brogue and a gentleness of spirit. Priests who know him describe him as a fine priest, which in priestly circles is high praise. He is Irish born with experience in ministry including in Chile, Denver, Hartford, and now with us. Fr. Declan begins on January 31

I also want you to know that this Lent our parish focus will be on the Psalms. They are an invaluable tool for anyone who wants to deepen their prayer life. I was reminded of that truth at Tom Larkin’s funeral. Tom was a man of deep prayer and so the family chose psalm 34 for the responsorial psalm. It was proclaimed by Tom’s son, Cody, himself a man of deep prayer. As Cody read the psalm, he choked up a bit. I know it was because the psalm was prayed by Tom as he faced the great torment of living and dying with ALS. It was a prayer of trust and confidence. Tom lived the experience spoken of in that psalm.

So, this Lent, we will have a Morning Study after 9am Mass, and Friday evenings will begin with our usual Lenten Soup & Bread Suppers, followed by entering into the psalms. Both sessions will cover the same ground. We are also ordering a pocket-sized book of the revised Grail Psalms, which is the new translation to be used in the Liturgy of the Hours. It is a beautiful translation. If you would like a copy of the book of psalms, we have a sign-up sheet in the hallway so we will know how many to order. We will offer the books for free and ask for a donation to help defray the cost to the parish.

I have spent the last two months immersed in the psalms and it has enriched my prayer life. The first thing I did was read all 150 and chose my favorites. That list came to well over 40! There is a psalm for almost any human circumstance. Sign up and see for yourself.

Thank You, St. Jerome!

As I sit down to write these words, my heart overflows with emotion. It's hard to believe that after eight and a half years, 3,095 days to be exact, my time at St. Jerome has come to an end. The weekend of Epiphany, marked by our first snowfall of the year, brought an unexpected turn of events. Amidst the shifting plans and chaotic weather, I anticipated a small farewell gathering. But to my surprise, a multitude of people came together on that Saturday evening, both for the mass and the dinner that followed. Standing before you all, conducting the mass, my mind was a whirlwind of emotions, especially when the choir sang some of my favorite songs. Listening to your words, reliving our shared memories, and feeling the love you extended towards me created a farewell that will forever remain etched in my heart.

Since the announcement of my departure from St. Jerome, I've been overwhelmed by an outpouring of love from this community. Invitations to dinners, lunches, and gatherings have filled my days, and I've cherished every moment spent in the company of families and friends. While I must admit to gaining a few pounds from all the delicious meals, the true nourishment has come from the love I've experienced here. The warmth and kindness of the people of St. Jerome have touched my heart in a way that words cannot express. I am deeply grateful for the countless ways you have shown your love and care for me since my arrival. You have enriched my life beyond measure, and I will forever carry the memories of our time together. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for everything. I am forever indebted to you all.

As I opened each card you sent, my heart overflowed with emotion. Your kind words, heartfelt wishes, and personal stories touched me deeply. I felt the love and care you poured into every message and gift, and I'm so incredibly grateful. My initial plan was to write individual thank you notes, but I humbly admit that the sheer abundance of your kindness has made that impossible. To express my gratitude to each of you personally would take weeks, and I fear I would still miss someone! So, I've chosen to share my thanks in this newsletter, where my words can reach you all. I'm deeply touched by the generosity you've shown, not only in your kind words but also in your thoughtful gifts. I was even surprised to receive gifts in the names of some of your beloved pets—a testament to the love and blessings that have filled your homes in recent years. Please know that the monetary gifts you've given will be used for something truly meaningful, something that will allow me to cherish your generosity and love for the rest of my life. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for making me feel so loved and appreciated. Your kindness has made a profound impact on my life.

To the dear children of St. Jerome's Faith Formation, your gifts have touched my heart in a way that words can hardly express. Your kind words of appreciation mean more to me than you could ever know, and I will treasure your writings as a source of inspiration in the days ahead. Thank you for sharing your love through your heartfelt messages and the generous monetary gift. Your thoughtfulness has humbled me deeply, and I am filled with profound gratitude. Each of you will remain in my thoughts and prayers. I have unwavering faith that you will embark on remarkable journeys and do wonderful things in the world. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Dear teachers of St. Jerome Faith Formation, thank you for guiding our children. Your kindness and efforts are highly appreciated.

I've saved the most important part for last: a heartfelt thank you to the incredible organizers and volunteers who made the farewell celebration so special. I'm deeply humbled by the outpouring of love and care I received that night. It's a question I often ask myself: am I worthy of such kindness from such wonderful people? Sometimes, we receive love even when we feel undeserving, and that's a profound gift.

Kathy Rohr and Daniela O'Callaghan, I'm especially grateful to you for your tireless efforts in planning and coordinating the entire program. Your dedication made the evening seamless and unforgettable. To the kitchen crew, thank you for your consistently excellent work. You bring people together through the magic of cooking, sharing love with every dish you prepare. The food, as always, was exceptional, and everyone raved about it. To the men's group and all the volunteers who helped with cleaning and setup, thank you for your hard work and dedication. Your contributions ensured a beautiful and welcoming space for our gathering. And to everyone who brought desserts, appetizers, and other delicious treats, thank you for adding to the abundance and joy of the celebration. The shared meals and conversations around those tables will stay with me for a long time. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to each and every one of you who joined us that night. It was a true celebration, and we have the next one coming on January 19th, when you'll celebrate Father David's 80th birthday! His continued presence in our community is a blessing, and I'm grateful he'll be here as administrator until our new pastor arrives. As I embark on my new journey, I ask that you keep me in your thoughts and prayers. I'm confident that our paths will cross again, and I cherish the moments we've shared and those yet to come.

As I pause here, I feel a quiet certainty that these words may be my last within the St. Jerome Bulletin. For your unwavering patience and kindness in reading my lengthy musings, I offer my sincerest gratitude. With a heart brimming with appreciation, I bid you all a warm and heartfelt farewell.
The Epiphany of the Lord

This weekend we celebrate the Epiphany of the Lord. The Epiphany of the Lord, as depicted in the scripture passage of Matthew 2:1-12, is a profound revelation of the divine to the Gentiles. The visit of the Magi, guided by a star, signifies the universal nature of Christ's salvation. The journey of the Wise Men reflects the human quest for meaning and truth, as they followed the celestial sign to find the newborn King. Their gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh symbolize homage, worship, and the recognition of Jesus' earthly and heavenly significance. The Epiphany reminds us that God's revelation transcends cultural and geographical boundaries, inviting all people to encounter the divine. It prompts reflection on our own spiritual journey and the ways in which we seek and recognize the presence of God in our lives. Just as the Magi offered their precious gifts, the Epiphany challenges us to offer our hearts and lives in worship and acknowledgment of the divine manifestation in Jesus Christ.

The narrative of the Epiphany of the Lord holds a special resonance for me, especially as I conclude my role as the pastor of Saint Jerome Church this weekend and embark on a sabbatical journey. Similar to the wise men who sought Jesus, I find myself on a symbolic spiritual journey during this time of transition. As I step into a year-long sabbatical, I reflect on the parallels between the Magi's quest and my own pursuit of the divine in the coming months. Their gifts, representing a profound search for the Lord, mirror the spiritual and life journey we all undertake. I feel immensely blessed to have spent the past eight and a half years with the community of Saint Jerome, a period that has been the best years of my life. The invaluable experiences and growth I've encountered here have shaped me in various ways, and I am profoundly grateful to the supportive community that has been an integral part of my journey.

As I reflect on my journey at St. Jerome, I am compelled to express my deep gratitude to those who paved the way for me to be a part of this community. I extend my sincere appreciation to Bishop Caggiano for the invitation to study and work in the diocese, a gesture facilitated by the mediation of Msgr. Robert Kinnally, the pastor of St. Aloysius, New Canaan. Initially arriving at St. Jerome for a brief 40-day period during Father Dave's vacation, I anticipated a transition to Our Lady of Grace in Stratford. However, Father Dave's efforts and conversations with the diocesan leadership led to an extension of my stay at St. Jerome for three years, serving as an associate pastor. Amidst continuing my studies and Father Dave's retirement, a pivotal moment arose when Bishop Caggiano entrusted me with the responsibility of leading St. Jerome. Throughout this transformative journey, Father Dave has been more than a colleague; he has been a father figure, a source of support, and a constant companion. Grateful for his kindness and unwavering support, I acknowledge the positive impact he has had on my life at St. Jerome, and I am indebted to the entire community for being my loving companions and pillars of strength.

I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to the incredible staff members at Saint Jerome. Our church is truly fortunate to have such highly talented individuals who consistently offer their unwavering support. It has been a genuine blessing to have these dedicated individuals by my side as we work together to fulfill the goals and aspirations of our community. Though I won't name each one individually, you all know who they are, and I want you to understand how truly blessed we are to have them as part of the Saint Jerome Church family. Their commitment has been instrumental in keeping the church running smoothly on a regular basis. I also fondly remember those who served on the staff in the past. A special acknowledgment goes to Deacon Dean for his support during his active tenure. I extend my heartfelt thanks to all staff members for their kindness and unwavering support throughout these past 8 and 1/2 years. Your invaluable contributions have defined our collaborative spirit, and I am deeply grateful for the journey we have shared together.

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the outstanding parish leadership at Saint Jerome Church, encompassing all the active volunteers across various ministries. The commitment and passion exhibited by our leadership team have been instrumental in shaping the spirit of our community. Their dedication surpasses expectations, evident in the collaborative efforts with community members that truly set our parish apart. A recent meeting with Monsignor Kinnally, focusing on the selection of a new pastor, underscored the remarkable qualities of our parish leadership. Monsignor Kinnally commended their spirituality, commitment, and profound love for the parish, recognizing the distinctiveness that defines Saint Jerome. Having had the privilege of working with and getting to know each of you in the past years, I want to convey my sincere thanks for your kindness, unwavering support, and valuable advice. Your contributions have transformed this parish into a beautiful and spiritually enriching place, and I consider myself fortunate to have been part of this journey with such a dedicated and inspiring leadership team.

I want to express my deepest gratitude to all the members of St. Jerome Church. Your acceptance of me just as I am, with my strengths and weaknesses, has been a source of immense strength and support. Without the encouragement and backing of the community members of Saint Jerome, my journey in this parish would not have been possible. Your kindness, support, and constant presence have been the pillars of my time here. The words of appreciation, encouragement, and your readiness to help at any time have shaped my experience in this community. Your financial support, prayers, commitment, volunteering, and love for humanity are what make each of you special. Your collective inspiration and desire to serve humanity have propelled the parish to new heights, and it has been a privilege to witness and be a part of this transformative journey. The numerous kind and compassionate individuals at St. Jerome have set examples that will resonate with me for a lifetime, influencing my own thoughts on life. Thank you for being so incredibly nice to me, for helping, supporting, strengthening, and, most importantly, believing in me.

As I bring this lengthy column to a close, I earnestly request your continued support and prayers for our upcoming new pastor. The process of finding a replacement is underway, and I have been informed that we will soon have a name to welcome into our community. Departing on January 10th, I am confident that Father Dave will seamlessly facilitate the transition, acting as a vital link between the new pastor and our community. I emphasize the importance of extending the same warmth, kindness, and support you have graciously provided me over the years to our incoming pastor. Your open hearts and dedication will undoubtedly create a welcoming environment, enabling the new pastor to commit wholeheartedly to the well-being of Saint Jerome. Though I express this as a formality, I have full faith that you will extend a warm welcome and assist the new pastor in establishing and fulfilling his duties. I appreciate your prayers as I embark on this new chapter of my life, eagerly following my heart's calling to a new area of ministry and service to the people.

Third Sunday of Advent

It is already the Third Sunday of Advent. The scripture passage from John 1:6-8, 19-28 for the Third Sunday of Advent centers around the testimony of John the Baptist. As the Gospel unfolds, we encounter John, a voice crying out in the wilderness, preparing the way for the Lord. His humility shines through as he emphasizes that he is not the light but a witness to the light. This passage prompts us to reflect on the importance of humility and self-awareness in our own spiritual journeys. In a season that calls us to prepare for the coming of Christ, John's example challenges us to be authentic witnesses, acknowledging our role in God's plan without seeking personal glory. As we navigate the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, the words of John the Baptist serve as a gentle reminder to redirect our focus towards the true Light that is coming into the world, renewing our sense of purpose and commitment to a life centered on Christ.

It was a joyous occasion on Tuesday as the St. Jerome community came together for a heartwarming ‘Lessons and Carols’ (carol singing and scripture reading joined together). The atmosphere at our church was truly prayerful, providing everyone with a special opportunity for communal prayer and reflection. Following this spiritually enriching experience, we gathered at the Parish Hall, where Daniela and Joe O’Callaghan took the lead in orchestrating a beautiful night. Gratitude goes out to the dedicated choir members, readers, and all who actively participated in making this celebration memorable. The evening was not only about the harmonious sounds of carols and the reading of scripture but also a time for fellowship as we enjoyed hot chocolate and delicious snacks. I extend heartfelt thanks to everyone involved with our Lessons & Carols. I would also like to commend those who have contributed to our Giving Tree for Christmas during this sacred Advent season. Together, these two things have captured the meaningful and memorable spirit of the season.

The level of participation from individuals was truly heartening, signaling a growing sense of collaboration and involvement among the four parishes in our region. This collective effort stands out as the highlight of our ministry, emphasizing the strength that lies in unity and shared purpose. A sincere thank you goes out to our dedicated volunteers and leaders who played a pivotal role in orchestrating this impactful event. It is through their commitment and passion that we can provide meaningful ministries for the benefit of our children and the broader community. This collaborative spirit reflects the essence of our shared journey in faith and the positive impact we can make when working together for a common purpose.

As we immerse ourselves in the Advent season, our hearts are filled with anticipation for the announcement of our new pastor, expected by the month's end. The spirit of waiting is intertwined with our collective prayers, seeking divine intervention and the continued guidance of the Holy Spirit. Our hopes extend beyond the appointment of a new shepherd to encompass the collaboration of community leaders and the entire Saint Jerome community. Together, we aspire to carry forward the legacy of Saint Jerome to new heights, fostering unity and shared purpose. May this season of waiting be a time of spiritual preparation, binding us together in faith and anticipation for the blessings that the future holds.

It is the Second Sunday of Advent. In Mark 1:1-8, the Gospel sets the tone for the second Sunday of Advent with the proclamation of John the Baptist preparing the way for the coming Messiah. This passage invites us to reflect on the theme of preparation and repentance during this season of anticipation. John's call to "prepare the way of the Lord" serves as a poignant reminder for us to examine our hearts and make room for the transformative presence of Christ in our lives. As we light the second Advent candle, symbolizing peace, the scripture challenges us to find peace through repentance and a renewed commitment to spiritual readiness. Just as John baptized with water, we are called to immerse ourselves in the cleansing waters of repentance, paving the way for the Prince of Peace to enter our lives afresh. The Advent season thus becomes an opportunity to align our hearts with the message of hope and redemption, fostering a sense of inner peace that transcends the busyness of the season and centers us on the true meaning of Christmas.

Last week, our community at St. Jerome Church witnessed a heartwarming display of extraordinary generosity and unity. During our special collection for the annual Bishops' Appeal, we aimed to raise $3,000. But the St. Jerome spirit truly shone through, and we surpassed our target by raising an incredible $3,500! Even with challenging weather conditions that kept attendance lower than usual, the collective determination of our parishioners shone brightly. This showcased the remarkable strength and solidarity of our faith community. We are genuinely grateful to each and every individual who contributed to this achievement. Your support signifies the power of our shared commitment and the remarkable ability of our parish to rally together in times of need. Your generosity has not only met, but exceeded our goal for the year, reflecting the resilience and compassion that define the spirit of St. Jerome Church. Thank you wholeheartedly for your contributions. Together, we have reached our annual goal, and we couldn't have done it without you.

Last Thursday, we were honored to welcome Monsignor Bob Kinnally and Deacon Jerry Lambert from the diocese to St. Jerome Parish. Their visit served as the official beginning of our search for a new pastor. During the meeting, Monsignor Kinnally and Deacon Lambert engaged in open discussions with our dedicated staff, Trustee, Parish Council, and Finance Council members. They actively listened to the valuable insights and perspectives shared by our parishioners as the search for our next spiritual leader commences. As we embark on this journey together, I humbly ask for your prayers and positive thoughts throughout the discernment process. May God bless us with a highly spiritual and inspiring pastor who will guide us to greater spiritual heights and strengthen the bonds that unite our community. With your unwavering support and God's grace, I am confident that we will be blessed with a wonderful leader who will deepen our connection with God and lead us closer to His presence. We eagerly await the arrival of a pastor who will inspire and guide us on this shared journey of faith and community.

Today is the first Sunday of Advent, marking the start of a new liturgical year. The scripture passage of Mark 13:33-37, observed on this day, reminds us of the importance of being vigilant and ready for the coming of the Lord. Jesus' words in this passage emphasize the uncertainty of the time of his return and the need for staying alert. As we enter the Advent season, we should reflect on our spiritual preparedness, examining the state of our hearts, staying connected with God through prayer and reflection, and living according to Christ's teachings. The Advent wreath, lit on this day, symbolizes hope and anticipation, reminding us to not only celebrate the birth of Christ but also eagerly anticipate his second coming. During this season, the scripture inspires us to be watchful and faithful in our spiritual journey. Let us be mindful of this sense of urgency and strive to grow in our discipleship.

The Saint Jerome community stands as a testament to the strength of faith and unity that defines its members. This Tuesday, as they bid a poignant farewell to Tom Larkin, a cherished member who contributed significantly to the parish through his involvement in the men's group and various connections, the community experienced a profound loss. Despite the pain, the faith that unites them became a source of solace and a catalyst for coming together. The parish mass and celebration of Tom's life were not just rituals but a testament to the deep bonds that tie the community. A heartfelt appreciation extends to the funeral committee, whose exceptional dedication and hard work shone through, seamlessly bringing the parish together. In this challenging time, the collaborative spirit of the committee and other parish leaders was instrumental in crafting a beautiful and memorable farewell, illustrating the strength of St. Jerome's community bonds and their commitment to supporting one another in times of both joy and sorrow.

Dear parishioners, your generosity and commitment to our community have brought us remarkably close to achieving our goal for this year's Annual Bishop's Appeal. We are incredibly grateful for the support from most of our parishioners, but we find ourselves just shy of reaching the finish line. We are reaching out to you once again, not out of preference but out of necessity. We believe in the strength of our community, and with your collaboration and support, we can bridge the remaining gap. This weekend, we are doing a special collection dedicated to covering the remaining amount. If your finances allow, we kindly ask you to consider contributing by writing a check to Saint Jerome, with "Bishop's Appeal" in the memo. Your continued support and understanding make a significant impact on our parish, and together, we can ensure the success of this important endeavor. Thank you for being an integral part of our St. Jerome family.

In closing, I extend heartfelt gratitude to everyone who played a pivotal role in making our tree-lighting event a memorable success. Despite the unfavorable weather, the warmth of community spirit prevailed as many of you came forward to participate. A special acknowledgment goes to Daniela, Joe, and Kathy, whose dedication and leadership shone brightly, steering the event with grace and enthusiasm. Their efforts, alongside those of other dedicated parish leaders, truly made the occasion special. Thank you for your unwavering support and the indomitable spirit that makes our parish truly exceptional.

Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe

The passage of Matthew 25:31-46, which is often read on the feast day known as the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, presents a compelling and challenging vision of the final judgment. The imagery of the Son of Man seated upon a glorious throne, separating people as a shepherd separates sheep from goats, conveys a powerful message about the nature of Christ's kingship and the ethical demands of the Kingdom of God. Unlike worldly rulers, Christ's kingship is not marked by pomp or dominion, but by humble service and care for the "least of these." The passage calls the faithful to recognize Christ in the hungry, the thirsty, the stranger, the naked, the sick, and the imprisoned. It starkly points out that the acts of mercy we show to others are, in fact, acts of devotion to Christ Himself, who is present in the most vulnerable and marginalized. This scripture invites a reflection on how well one's actions mirror the call to serve Christ in others and suggests that the path to eternal life is paved with compassion and solidarity with those in need. It is a reminder that the kingdom of Christ the King is built on love, and His subjects are those who love.

This past weekend, particularly on Friday and Saturday, we witnessed an extraordinary display of parish unity and collaboration. As we hosted one of the largest funerals for Jeff Smith, a beloved figure in Norwalk, the outpouring of love and support was palpable. The wake extended well beyond the scheduled hours, reflecting the community’s dedication to honoring a life well-lived. The following day, the seamless transition to a significant funeral and then preparing for the evening Mass was nothing short of remarkable, made possible only through the tireless efforts of numerous volunteers. These individuals, embodying the spirit of service that Christ calls us to, offered comfort and assistance to the grieving family. Our gratitude extends to Father David, whose leadership during the funeral was a source of strength. This weekend was a true testament to our community's capacity for compassion and solidarity, vividly illustrating that our faith is lived through acts of kindness and community. I am moved to bring attention to this remarkable demonstration of our parish’s living faith and to thank everyone for their heartfelt dedication during those days. Your actions were a true reflection of the Kingdom of God, where love and service reign supreme.

As we reflect on the spirit of giving and community that defines our parish, I’d like to draw your attention to an important financial goal that we are striving to meet. This year, we are just $3,000 short of achieving our Bishop's Appeal target. While I understand the hesitancy that often accompanies financial requests, the fulfillment of this goal is crucial in upholding the legacy of our parish's commitment to the wider Church community. To bridge this gap, we will be holding a special collection next weekend. I humbly ask each one of you to consider making a contribution—any amount that is within your means will be greatly appreciated and will contribute significantly toward reaching our goal. For those writing checks, please remember to indicate “Bishop’s Appeal” on the memo line. Your generous support will not only help us meet our annual commitment but also reinforce the solidarity and shared purpose that our parish stands for. Thank you for your continued kindness and generosity.

Join us this Sunday for our Christmas tree lighting! There will be fun activities for the kids and a chance for everyone in our parish family to enjoy the holiday spirit together. A big thank you to our leaders and volunteers for making this event possible.

The scripture passage from Matthew 25:14-30, often referred to as the Parable of the Talents, serves as a profound metaphor for the Christian calling to use our God-given gifts in service to God's kingdom. In the parable, a master entrusts his servants with talents (a large sum of money), each according to their ability. Upon his return, he rewards those who have multiplied their talents, while the one who buried his talent is rebuked for his inaction. This story is a reminder of the importance of stewardship and the active engagement of our faith. As we reflect upon this passage during the 33rd Sunday of Ordinary Time, we are called to consider how we are utilizing our own 'talents.' Are we investing them wisely and courageously in the service of others and for the glory of God, or are we allowing fear and complacency to hold us back from fulfilling our potential? This is a call to action not just for personal gain but as a responsibility toward the collective growth of our community and faith. As we near the end of the liturgical year, it is a timely moment to evaluate our spiritual investments and recommit ourselves to participating fully in God's work with all the resources He has given us.

On the 33rd Sunday of Ordinary Time, we, the St. Jerome Church community, are in a moment of contemplation as we prepare to say goodbye to our beloved member, Jeff Smith. His life reflected the teachings of the Gospel in a profound manner. As the scripture passage from Matthew 25:14-30, the Parable of the Talents, reminds us to use our gifts in the service of God's kingdom, Jeff's legacy serves as a testament to this divine instruction.

Jeff Smith was more than just a teacher. He was a mentor, a father figure, a friend, and an inspiration to many. His incredible life story saw him share his passion for music as a band director in several schools, an instructor, a drill writer for marching bands, a symphony director, and a performer. Instead of keeping his talents to himself, he invested them in the lives of thousands, resulting in a harvest of enriched lives and a legacy that will resonate for generations to come.

As we come together to mourn Jeff's passing and celebrate his life, we are inspired to reflect on how we use our own talents. Jeff's story encourages us to question whether we are using our abilities to make a positive impact on the world, as he did. His life serves as a reminder that if we have the courage and generosity to share our gifts with others, we can achieve great things, leaving a lasting legacy that transcends time.

As the Christmas season draws near, our hearts and efforts turn to the preparation for Advent. In the spirit of giving and community, we invite all who can join us on Monday at 6:30 p.m. to help prepare over 300 Christmas tree tags. These tags symbolize our commitment to extending our support to neighboring communities through various initiatives, including the Social Concerns Committee's food collection and the children's can collection. The enthusiastic participation and generosity shown by our community in these efforts are true testaments to our shared concern for those in need. Your continued support is deeply appreciated as we move together into this season of generosity and hope.

Reflecting on the Gospel of Matthew 25:1-13, which is read on the 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time, we are invited to contemplate the Parable of the Ten Virgins. This passage serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of preparedness and vigilance in our spiritual journey. The wise virgins, with their lamps filled with oil, symbolize the readiness that comes from a life lived in authentic faith and good works, always awaiting the Lord's coming. In contrast, the foolish virgins represent a superficial faith, unprepared and easily caught off-guard. The central theme of the passage is clear: the necessity of being prepared at all times for the final coming of Christ. It's a call to live in a state of constant readiness, not in fear, but in hopeful anticipation, embracing the virtues of prudence, faith, and diligent devotion. The closing of the door is not just a warning of a missed opportunity but a sobering reminder that there is an ultimate moment of accountability and that time is a gift not to be squandered.

I became a part of the St. Jerome Church community in July 2015, with a clear vision of completing my doctoral studies and engaging in parish ministry. With the support of the church, I was able to achieve my goals and gain a sense of accomplishment. However, the time has come for me to bid farewell to St. Jerome, and I will be departing on January 10, 2024. My tenure at St. Jerome's has been akin to the Parable of the Ten Virgins, emphasizing the importance of being prepared and ready. My departure is not abrupt, but rather a transition that has been anticipated since the beginning, as this tenure is just a temporary chapter in my longer story of ministry and service. The diocese in India has kindly granted me a one-year sabbatical leave for introspection, rest, and spiritual growth. This is an invaluable opportunity for me to gain clarity and chart the course for my future ministry.

As I get ready to leave St. Jerome Church, you may be worried about its future. However, I have some good news that promises continuity and hope. The congregation has expressed concerns about what will happen to the church after I depart, but the bishop has reassured us that St. Jerome will continue to stand independently and won't merge with neighboring parishes. He wants to focus on more collaboration rather than a merger for St. Jerome. His satisfaction with the church's current trajectory is a testament to the collective efforts of the community. Now, the focus will shift to spiritual and collective growth, building upon the solid foundation of maintained infrastructure and revitalized spaces.

The promise of growth at St. Jerome Church is not just a hope but a visible reality, thanks to the dedication of its community leaders from various sectors. With a new pastor who brings fresh vision and perspective, the church is well-positioned to enter its next chapter of development and prosperity. Father Dave will continue to be an integral part of the community and act as a liaison for both the congregation and the incoming pastor. Although marked by change, this transition phase is full of potential and excitement for what lies ahead for St. Jerome Church. The community can look forward to a future of spiritual enrichment and growth, guided by steadfast leadership and unified by a shared vision.

At St. Jerome Church, I've had an enriching journey of personal and spiritual growth. Father David, the staff, and the volunteers have been nurturing and supportive. My life's essence can be captured in the word "Explore" - I have an innate desire to discover and engage with the world and its lessons. The exploration at St. Jerome has been nothing short of extraordinary, leaving me with profound memories and experiences that I will carry forward as a source of strength and guidance. These memories will serve as a sturdy pillar, supporting me in all my future endeavors. As there is still time to share moments with this beautiful community, I look forward to expressing my gratitude personally to as many of you as possible, cherishing the time we have left, and celebrating the journey we’ve shared.

In the Gospel of Matthew 23:1-12, presented on the 31st Sunday of Ordinary Time, Jesus' exhortation to humility serves as a profound reflection for our own lives, challenging the natural human desire for recognition and status with the radical call to servant leadership. He admonishes the scribes and Pharisees for their inconsistency between words and actions, urging us to consider our motivations—are we seeking self-glorification or genuinely striving to lift others? This passage invites us to practice what we preach, aligning our actions with our faith and embracing humility not as self-deprecation but as an acknowledgment of our rightful place before God and each other. In the ordinariness of our daily lives, we are called to find sanctity in service and love, following Christ's example who embodied the greatest authority as the servant of all.

I would like to draw your attention to an important matter: Bishop Caggiano extends a heartfelt invitation to all local parish leaders for a pivotal gathering that promises to be a cornerstone in the journey of renewing our Church. The meeting, set within the embracing community of Saint Thomas More Parish Hall on November 18, 2023, stands as an opportunity to unite in prayer and collaborative spirit. This is your moment to voice the challenges and share in the shaping of a vision that responds to the needs of our parishes in Norwalk, Darien, and New Canaan. Pastors, priests, staff, and all those who serve in capacities of leadership and formation are called to contribute their insights. Your presence is not just valuable, but vital, as we discern the priorities that will guide our pastoral work to bear greater fruit. Make your mark on this mission; join Bishop Caggiano in this concerted effort to forge paths of cooperation that will invigorate our ministry and reflect the collective wisdom of our faith community. Let us come together, eager to engage in dialogue and action that will nurture the spiritual vitality of our Church.

A special note of gratitude is owed to Eddie Devingo, whose craftsmanship on our rectory roof is commendable. Not only did he provide an economical solution, but his generous discounts and additional maintenance are acts of stewardship that embody the spirit of our community. His commitment to stand by us for future needs is a testament to the supportive and caring environment nurtured within our parish. Eddie's role in these improvements exemplifies the sense of kinship and mutual support that makes our parish truly feel like home.

On the 30th Sunday of Ordinary Time, we are called to meditate on a profound scripture passage from Matthew 22:34-40. This passage underscores the essence of Christian moral life and spiritual fulfillment, revolving around the Greatest Commandment as articulated by Jesus Christ. Here, Christ simplifies the complexity of the laws and prophets into two fundamental principles: love of God and love of neighbor. In this passage, the Pharisees, in an attempt to test Jesus, asked Him to identify the greatest commandment in the law. Jesus responds, "You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind." By this, He emphasizes complete devotion and surrender to God, a love that calls for the engagement of every aspect of one's being. It's a declaration that true obedience comes from a total and encompassing commitment to God's will, above our desires or understanding. But Jesus doesn’t stop there. He complements it with, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself," thus intimately linking our love of God with our love for those around us. Here, 'neighbor' transcends geographical, racial, religious, and social boundaries. This commandment calls us to a radical form of empathy and action: to recognize God in every human being and to treat them with dignity, respect, and love that stems from recognizing their divine creation. It is as if Jesus wants us to understand that our love for God isn't demonstrated solely through worship, prayer, or religious observances, but equally through our actions towards others, reflecting genuine compassion, kindness, and service. Reflecting on this scripture during the 30th Sunday of Ordinary Time should prompt a deep personal and communal examination. We are urged to ask ourselves: Do we reserve our love and respect only for those we feel are deserving, or do we extend it to all, including those different or even antagonistic toward us? Are there parts of our hearts that remain resistant to the command to love without measure? This period in the liturgical calendar, Ordinary Time, is far from 'ordinary' in the context of these reflections. It is a time for growth and maturation in our spiritual lives. It invites us to carry the extraordinary commandments of love into our everyday ordinary interactions and decisions. Through these, we are called back to the simplicity of Christ's teaching, yet also to its profundity, embracing love as the foundational virtue upon which all other laws and prophetic teachings stand. It is in these commandments that the path to a fulfilling and righteous life lies, illuminating the world with God's love through our everyday actions. Let us strive to follow the teachings of our Lord in our personal spiritual journey. May our Loving Father bestow His blessings upon all of us. Let us also pray for the world to find peace and joy. I would like to express my gratitude for your prayers and continued support to St. Jerome. Yours Lovingly – Fr. Rojin

On Saturday at 11 AM, the Diocese of Bridgeport will commemorate its 70th anniversary with a special Mass at the cathedral. The event will feature unique readings and hymns specific to this milestone celebration. Father David and I will officiate this service, and representatives from across the diocese will join us, reflecting our unity and collective journey in faith. The highlight of this ceremony will be the solemn prayers of consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, symbolizing our renewed devotion and commitment. Further embracing this spirit of consecration, St. Jerome Church will extend this devotional act by carrying out additional prayers of consecration within our parish community this Sunday. This confluence of celebrations not only reflects our gratitude for the countless blessings received over the diocese's seven-decade history but also invites the faithful from all corners of our community to participate. It's an opportunity for everyone to reconsecrate themselves to the perpetual grace of God, acknowledging our past and inspiring our future spiritual journey. Recently, St. Jerome's parish experienced a moment of profound pride and gratitude during the Saint Augustine Medal ceremony at the Cathedral. This event recognized the selfless contributions of Joe and Andrea Licek, who were honored for their unwavering commitment to our community. Representing St. Jerome, they have generously dedicated their time and skills, significantly benefiting our church. It was a privilege to witness their deserved recognition, highlighting their role among many unsung heroes within our parish. Though each year we can nominate only two for this honor, it's essential to acknowledge that our parish thrives because of numerous individuals like Joe and Andrea, who work quietly and tirelessly in service. Their genuine desire to foster a vibrant parish community, expecting nothing in return, is truly the embodiment of the spirit we cherish at St. Jerome. Let's collectively congratulate and express our deepest appreciation for the Liceks' continued sacrifices, acknowledging the essential role such dedication plays in the life and heart of our community. I am delighted to provide you with an update on the considerable progress made at St. Jerome. We have recently completed the rectory roof work, which was financed entirely through our successful raffle. This is a testament to our community's incredible support. In addition, the boiler project is underway, and we now have operational heating. We anticipate the imminent completion of the main church's air blower system and the installation of new air conditioners. These enhancements are essential for our parish's comfort and longevity, and we have been able to accomplish them thanks to your patience, understanding, and generous backing throughout the entire process. Your involvement and concern in these ongoing improvements continue to support our beloved St. Jerome for many years to come. Thank you for your continued support. Let's celebrate the 70th anniversary of our diocese with joy and gratitude! Yours Lovingly – Fr. Rojin

Sunday in Ordinary Time. Matthew 22:1-14 recounts the Parable of the Wedding Banquet. Through this vivid and powerful parable, Jesus portrays the Kingdom of Heaven as a royal wedding feast that God, the King, has prepared for His Son, Jesus Christ. Those who were initially invited, representing the Israelites, ignored or rejected the invitation. This leads the King to invite everyone, both good and bad, symbolizing the inclusion of the Gentiles and all of humanity. Yet, the ending is striking; one guest, not wearing wedding clothes, is thrown out. This underscores the necessity of being not just called, but also chosen, highlighting the importance of true commitment and preparedness in one's faith journey. The story serves as a call to remain vigilant and responsive to God's invitation, ensuring that when called, we are ready and clothed in righteousness.

The Saint Jerome Parish hosted an amazing festival last weekend that was enjoyed by everyone who attended. The event was filled with joy, making it a truly celebratory experience. We were thrilled to see so many children participate in the raffle. It wasn't just about games and delicious food, as the festival also provided an opportunity for attendees to engage in meaningful conversations. Congratulations to all the lucky raffle winners! The weekend was a testament to the vibrant community spirit of Saint Jerome Parish.

Saint Jerome Parish Festival and Raffle stands as a shining example of community spirit and dedication. I extend my deepest gratitude to the myriad of committees - the core team, the food committee, the setup committee, the decoration committee, and the countless volunteers. Their tireless efforts transformed the event into a grand success. While I wish I could name everyone involved, the list is simply too expansive, but know that each contribution, no matter how big or small, has left an indelible mark on our community.

The sheer unity and camaraderie were evident during the final cleanup. Tasks that might have taken hours were completed in mere minutes, all due to the collaborative spirit of our parish members. It swelled my heart with pride to hear visiting members from across the nation laud our parish, commenting on our unity, especially in these trying times filled with negative news. Such affirmations offer tranquility, igniting enthusiasm and hope. These affirming words bolster our resolve, propelling us forward to confront daily challenges and emphasizing the power of human unity.

Sunday of Ordinary Time. In Matthew 21:33-43, the parable of the tenants warns against rejecting God's love and care. The vineyard symbolizes God's Kingdom, and the tenants represent rebellious humans who reject messengers and even kill the landowner's son. This parable reminds us that our privileges come with a responsibility to bear the fruits of love, justice, and mercy. We must recognize God's visitation in our lives and take action, or risk losing salvation. Nonetheless, God's redemptive plan cannot be thwarted, and the invitation remains open to all.

It's a jubilant weekend for Saint Jerome Church as we simultaneously celebrate our Parish Festival and host our raffle. Over the past several weeks, our dedicated raffle committee has diligently prepared for this special day — selling tickets, coordinating arrangements, and ensuring everything is set for the festivities. As we come together, it's a time to offer our gratitude to God for the abundant blessings we've received as a Parish Community. Particularly, we seek the intercession of our Patron, Saint Jerome, whose feast we honored on September 30th. I warmly invite everyone to partake in this grand celebration on Sunday, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. And a gentle reminder: if purchasing a ticket presents a challenge, please don’t let that deter you. All are welcome to join and savor the joy of our Parish Festival.

I'd like to pause and extend my deepest gratitude to the raffle committee, spearheaded by Jack O’Melia. With the concerted efforts of team leaders Jack, Doug Mejia, and John Kuczo, they have seamlessly collaborated with other parish community members to bring our vision to fruition. The theme of our combined raffle and Parish Festival is "We Are the World." This celebration promises a tantalizing array of global cuisines, reminding us of the rich tapestry of cultures that make up our world. Even amid our diverse appearances, languages, and ethnic backgrounds, it's vital to remember our shared humanity. As we gather, let this be a reminder of our unity and our call to approach each other with open hearts and minds. While I wish I could personally thank every contributor, it would undoubtedly fill this entire newsletter. Every individual, whether prominently seen or working behind the scenes, has played a pivotal role in orchestrating this event. Their dedication and effort have not gone unnoticed. To everyone who has poured their heart into this endeavor, I express my sincerest appreciation. It's an honor to celebrate and share in these grand festivities with all of you. Let's cherish these moments, our shared effort, and our collective spirit with heartfelt gratitude.

Sunday in Ordinary Time. The scripture passage of Matthew 21:28-32, featured on the 26th Sunday in Ordinary Time, contains a powerful parable shared by Jesus. In this parable, a father asks his two sons to work in his vineyard. The first son initially refuses but later changes his mind and goes to work, while the second son initially agrees but ultimately doesn't go. This parable conveys a profound message about repentance and actions. It highlights that it's not just our initial words or intentions that matter but the actual deeds and transformations in our hearts. The tax collectors and prostitutes, often considered societal outcasts, are likened to the first son who repents and obeys God's call, while the self-righteous ones, like the second son, may speak piously but fail to follow through. This scripture reminds us of the importance of genuine repentance and the transformative power of God's grace in our lives, teaching us that actions speak louder than words when it comes to our relationship with God and living out our faith.

As I pondered this over the week, I couldn't help but reflect on the significance of the upcoming Monday when we celebrate the Feast of the Guardian Angels. It struck me that the guidance and protection we've been receiving as a parish family at Saint Jerome is truly remarkable. Our journey here has been nothing short of extraordinary, particularly as we find ourselves in the midst of completing three major projects, collectively totaling around $800,000. These undertakings encompass the resurfacing of our parking lot, the renovation of our heating and cooling system, and the restoration of our rectory roof. I like to refer to them as "intergenerational projects" because they are investments in our shared future, with benefits projected to span at least 20 to 30-plus years. It's as though we've been safeguarded by divine grace and guided to carry out these projects for the betterment of our parish. These projects represent the current generation's gift to the future generation, enabling them to come together to worship the Lord and continue the tradition of contributing to the future. In this, we are building a legacy at Saint Jerome where unity, faith, and community thrive. Reflecting on this background, it becomes clear that we must chart a path forward as a parish that continues this legacy of faith, stewardship, and togetherness.

After delving into these thoughts, you might be wondering about the underlying message I'm trying to convey. It's quite simple: as a parish, we've been thriving, but there's always room for improvement, not just in our personal lives but also in our spiritual and social aspects. Looking ahead for Saint Jerome Parish, it becomes evident that we must collectively strive to engage and empower our younger families. The older generation of Saint Jerome has exemplified unwavering dedication, offering their time, resources, skills, and wholehearted commitment for the greater good of our parish family. To preserve this legacy, we must equip the next generation with the essential charisms that drive our mission forward. In my contemplation on engaging and empowering younger families, I am convinced that we need a variety of activities and programs that bring deeper meaning to their lives. Notably, our community members have already initiated steps toward this ambitious goal. We've established the Mother's Prayer Group, uniting young mothers in prayer for their children and other intentions. Similarly, the Father's Prayer Group brings together younger fathers to share in prayer and fellowship. "Wondrous Deeds" aims to motivate young parents to create service opportunities for families and children. These initiatives are just a glimpse of what we envision as we aspire to expand these small groups alongside our existing vibrant community organizations. Additionally, in October, we will introduce "Walking with Purpose," a program designed to engage women in scripture learning, enabling them to incorporate its teachings into their personal lives. In essence, our primary focus should now shift toward nurturing these younger families, and we welcome any innovative ideas from within our community to further enrich our parish life. Together, we can build an even stronger and more vibrant Saint Jerome Parish for generations to come.

As I acknowledge that this column has grown quite lengthy, there are numerous topics I wish to discuss, but for now, let me conclude this weekend's reflection by reminding us of a few key moments. This Friday's confirmation ceremony was a truly remarkable experience as we joined the St. Philip and Saint Jerome communities. Witnessing the gracefulness of the confirmation candidates was heartwarming, and Bishop Caggiano's presence and words resonated deeply, emphasizing the importance of faith in our spiritual journey. Another significant development is the commencement of our faith formation activities for the year. We have already met with Middle School parents and children, and this Sunday, our elementary school children will embark on their faith journey as we gather with parents and children to initiate various activities and learning programs. I humbly request that you keep all these children in your prayers as they embark on different phases of their spiritual lives, seeking the presence of the Lord.

Mark your calendars for the upcoming St. Jerome Church raffle, set for next Sunday, October 8th. Our dedicated raffle committee has put in tremendous effort to ensure it's a fantastic event for our Parish. I extend a warm invitation to everyone to participate in the raffle, enjoy a delightful lunch, and celebrate as a close-knit parish family. While all those who have purchased raffle tickets are welcome to join the Parish Festival and raffle lunch, I want to emphasize that financial constraints should not deter anyone from attending. We genuinely want you to be part of this joyous celebration, and we invite you to gracefully relish these moments together. Additionally, I encourage our parishioners to consider volunteering in areas where they can contribute their skills and time. Your support is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The scripture passage of Matthew 20:1-16a read on the 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time, contains the parable of the laborers in the vineyard. This parable illustrates God's unfathomable generosity, where all workers, regardless of when they arrive, receive the same reward. It challenges our human inclination to compare ourselves with others and question God's fairness. The landowner's response, "Are you envious because I am generous?" (Matthew 20:15), serves as a reminder that God's grace is not limited by our human understanding of merit and reward. This passage encourages us to embrace God's boundless love and grace with gratitude rather than envy. It teaches us that God's kingdom operates on principles of mercy, inclusion, and love that go beyond our worldly notions of fairness. As we reflect on this scripture, we are reminded to be grateful for the abundance of God's blessings in our lives and to avoid the trap of comparing ourselves to others. Instead, let us celebrate the inclusive and generous nature of God's kingdom, where all are invited to partake in the eternal rewards of faith and devotion.

As we embark on the beginning of our faith formation year this Sunday, we are filled with anticipation and enthusiasm for the journey ahead. To prepare for the upcoming year, we have scheduled a crucial meeting for Middle School parents and children immediately following the 10:00 a.m. Mass at our church this Sunday. Shelli Sullivan, our program lead, will provide a comprehensive overview of this year's Middle School program, offering a valuable opportunity for all attendees to seek clarification and ask questions. Additionally, on October 1st, we will hold a session for both children and parents to outline the Faith Formation program designed for our elementary school children. Steve Filizzola will explain the program for the year and will be able to answer your questions. I earnestly request the active participation of all parents and children in these two Sundays. By doing so, we can gain a thorough understanding of the program and actively engage in all its activities, fostering a collective environment for learning and growing in faith together. Furthermore, it's essential to note that there has been a change in our official email address for Faith Formation communication. We will now be using "faithformation@stjeromenorwalk.org" as our primary email for all correspondence related to our faith formation initiatives. Please take note of this change for effective communication.

Sunday in Ordinary Time. Matthew 18:21-35 is a profoundly impactful scripture passage that has resonated with countless individuals throughout history, including myself. In this passage, Peter asks Jesus how many times he should forgive someone who sins against him, suggesting seven times as a generous limit. Jesus, however, responds with the astonishing notion of forgiving not just seven times but seventy-seven times, emphasizing boundless forgiveness. This teaching reminds us of the incredible grace and mercy that God extends to us, regardless of our own shortcomings and mistakes. The parable of the unforgiving servant that follows emphasizes the necessity of showing the same mercy to others as we have received from God. It is a powerful reminder to let go of grudges and resentments and instead embrace forgiveness and compassion towards others. This passage encourages us to reflect on our own capacity to forgive and challenges us to be more forgiving and compassionate in our interactions with others. It is a timeless lesson that speaks to the essence of our humanity and the divine grace that we are called to share with one another.

Our boiler project is progressing exceptionally well, thanks to the remarkable efforts of Marasco Heating and Cooling. They have shown great dedication in executing the crucial tasks involved in our boiler project, and we are thrilled to report that they are on track to complete it before the arrival of winter. Notably, the new boilers are now in place, and we have the new propane gas tank ready for use. In the coming weeks, they will commence work within our church, where they will be upgrading our air handlers and air conditioning systems, ensuring our congregation's comfort year-round. Simultaneously, their expertise has also extended to our school building, where they have begun the process of replacing air controllers in our classrooms. It is truly heartening to witness the progress made thus far, and we eagerly anticipate the benefits these improvements will bring to our church and school community.

We are thrilled to share with you our upcoming Faith Formation program for the new school year. Similar to last year, our REACH program will be available for students in grades one through five. They will attend class sessions at 9:00 a.m., followed by Mass, just like before. There will be two in-class sessions and a monthly group session. However, for our Middle School students, we have decided to make a change to streamline schedules and enhance the overall experience. They will join the morning sessions and won't have afternoon classes at Saint Jerome. Starting this year, they will attend classes twice a month at 9:00 a.m., followed by Mass. Once a month, they will participate in a regional program, similar to last year's All Saints Catholic School arrangement. The Middle School program is available for 6th and 7th graders. For students in grades 8 through 12, we invite you to join our TOTAL program, which has exciting plans in store for the year. We are dedicated to creating engaging events and activities.

Our upcoming raffle at St. Jerome Church is generating a lot of excitement, and ticket sales are going remarkably well. We wholeheartedly encourage everyone to purchase tickets and join in the festivities, as this year's raffle will also be a significant part of our Parish Festival, promising a memorable experience for all. It's worth noting that the proceeds from this year's raffle will be directed towards the much-needed roof replacement of our rectory. We've already initiated collaboration with a vendor who is a valued member of our Parish, dedicated to ensuring our rectory's roof is replaced before the onset of winter. Our dedicated team has put together comprehensive plans to execute this project in the best possible way, and we can't wait to share this wonderful journey with you all. Get ready for an amazing and meaningful experience this year with our raffle!

As a faith community, we remain steadfast in our pursuit of the Holy Spirit's counsel and aid as we journey together. May the Holy Spirit's guidance continue to fortify us. Thank you once more for your invaluable support. Yours lovingly ~ Fr. Rojin

23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time - Fr. David's Random Thoughts

Last week I talked about one-line prayers and mentioned that one of my favorite one liners comes from Psalm 63. This week I want to introduce you to the complicated issue of how to translate a psalm. Originally, they were in Hebrew and so our English bibles must translate from the original Hebrew, not an easy task.

There are two basic positions, one called dynamic equivalence and the other literal equivalence. The first tries to be faithful to the original text yet does so in a way that is poetic and alive. The second is more concerned with translating the original word for word while still trying to keep the original poetic imagery. See which you prefer. I am going to give two versions of the opening of Psalm 63. See which one appeals to you more. At the end I will tell you which translation is the more literal.

           O God you are my God; at dawn I seek you;

For you my soul is thirsting.

For you my flesh is pining,

Like a dry, weary land without water.

I have come before you in the sanctuary,

To behold your strength and your glory.

O God, you are my God—

           For you I long.

           For you my body yearns;

           For you my soul thirsts,

           Like a land parched, lifeless

           And without water.

So I look to you in your sanctuary,

To see your power and your glory.

The first is the more literal and from now on will be the official translation of the Daily Office that all priests and religious pray each day.

Last Saturday at Men's Group, we revisited some of the past work of Dan Loch. Dan was an important part of every dimension of parish life before his death. The Men’s Group for the past six months has been focusing on “one-liners” from scripture or poetry. We begin by each person reciting the line aloud and then we talk about the power of the passage and its’ personal meaning.

Last Saturday Joe O’Callaghan Jr. led the group and presented us with a series on one-line prayers Dan had used every day of his life. That got me to thinking about prayer.

In learning how to pray there is a definite progression. People usually start with lots of verbal prayer. Those prayers while praising and thanking the Lord also usually contain lots of petitions. As one grows in prayer the focus gradually changes. Eventually more attention is paid to small passages from Scripture or other spiritual writings. Diving deep into those small words or scenes moves us to talk and listen to the Lord about what is going on inside us. Then we come to a stage where all we do is recite one line or word over and over in the depths of our heart. Finally, the last stage is silent presence before the Lord where we do nothing but open our hearts for Him to enter. The ultimate goal of prayer is union with the Divine.

In my own case, my prayer is primarily single lines from Scripture that I repeat over and over. On seeing a place of beauty, I will stop and internally repeat “This is the day the Lord has Made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.” More regularly, my repeated line will be a version of the beginning of Psalm 63. “O God, you are my God, for you I long, for you my soul is thirsting.” Words have power, and how we use them is critical. Next week’s column will be on the Psalms as THE book of prayer. Watch for it!

21st Sunday in Ordinary Time - Fr. Dave's Random Thoughts

Fr. Rojin has been doing such a good job of communicating with the parish that I have not written a column in a long time. Let me see if I can still do it.

Two events in the past week have gotten me thinking about the foundations in our lives; the things that ground us. Last Sunday I did the Baptism of the first child of Megan and Doug Strauss. You will not recognize the name until I tell you that Jackson Ryder Stauss is the latest great grandchild of John and Lee Kuczo. Those names you know, John and Lee, along with so many others, are the rock or foundation of this parish.

The parish of St. Jerome is a living entity, a community of so many good and kind people, all gathered around the Table of the Lord Sunday after Sunday. We are a community that tries to come away from Sunday Eucharist ever more committed to being in the world what we have just received: Jesus himself. We receive the Body and Blood of Christ to be the Body of Christ in the world.

This coming Saturday we are having a huge funeral for Maureen Thresher, a woman of great goodness and Grace. Early on Saturday the men’s group will gather to be another living stone on the Foundation of our parish. Then the women of the parish led by Domenica Gioiella and Annette Maiberger will lead a funeral ministry team in providing a meal for more than a hundred people. They, and the whole team, are part of our foundation, our rock.

This parish is a living, dynamically changing, group of People. Without the Lord Jesus at the center and so many key people who work to build us up, we would not be who we are. May the parish of St Jerome flourish for years to come.

The scripture passage from Matthew 15:21-28, observed on the 20th Sunday in Ordinary Time, presents a deeply impactful lesson on faith and humility. The story of the Canaanite woman's interaction with Jesus illustrates the power of persistent faith and the transformation that can occur through sincere humility. The woman's unwavering belief in Jesus' ability to heal her daughter, despite being initially met with what seemed like rejection, speaks to the importance of trusting in God's goodness even when faced with challenges. This passage encourages us to approach our own difficulties with the same tenacity and trust, understanding that even when it feels like our prayers are unanswered, God's wisdom and timing are perfect. It prompts us to cultivate a humble heart, as the woman's willingness to accept the metaphorical 'crumbs' from Jesus' table highlights the beauty of recognizing our own unworthiness while relying entirely on His grace. As we navigate our daily lives, we can draw inspiration from this passage to foster unyielding faith, patient persistence, and humble openness to God's will, knowing that our genuine trust and humility can lead to profound transformations in our spiritual journeys.

I trust that all of you are enjoying a wonderful summer this year. We are truly blessed with abundant rain, and personally, it is a season filled with meaningful experiences. Unfortunately, we did face some somber moments as a few of our parishioners passed away. However, I'm grateful to have been able to offer support during their times of need. Alongside this, my time was occupied with our upcoming boiler project, collaborating closely with our Parish team to enhance its functionality for the betterment of our parish community. Summer, indeed, has kept me busy, and now I'm eagerly looking forward to a two-week break in Europe, where I plan to spend quality time with my friends.

Let's delve into the details of our upcoming 2024 Faith Formation program. Please note that students in grades one through five will attend our REACH session, while students in grades six and seven will be required to attend our middle school program. Eighth graders will serve as leaders in the program. High school students will attend our youth ministry, and we will provide more details soon. It's inspiring to see numerous families enrolling their children for next year's REACH and Middle School programs. In collaboration with parents and teachers, we've diligently crafted a plan to synchronize the schedules of these enlightening programs. Both will seamlessly unfold on Sunday mornings, occurring concurrently from 9:00 to 10:00 AM, twice a month. Following these enriching sessions, we will seamlessly transition into the Holy Mass, nurturing a holistic spiritual experience.

In addition to these regular sessions, we're excited to introduce a monthly group gathering that encourages enhanced parental involvement. On designated Sundays for REACH group sessions, an exciting opportunity awaits our Middle School children. They will embark on a joint educational adventure at All Saints School in Norwalk, alongside peers from neighboring parishes. This special session, fostering a sense of community and shared growth, will transpire from 4:00 to 6:15 PM, once a month. We believe that this comprehensive approach will elevate the Faith Formation experience, nurturing not only the young minds but also fostering connections among families. Your support is invaluable, and we're genuinely excited to embark on this journey together.

In the spirit of fostering deeper family engagement, this year, we're thrilled to enhance the involvement of parents in our Faith Formation program. Specifically, on REACH Sundays when group sessions are held, we invite parents to join their children in collaborative activities and crafts, creating a unique bonding experience centered on faith. Moreover, we're excited to extend a special invitation to our confirmed children. They will have the chance to step into leadership roles, offering assistance to both teachers and church staff in guiding their fellow peers. This leadership opportunity not only empowers our eighth graders but also adds value to their resumes and cultivates skills vital for their future endeavors, including college applications and beyond. We are enthusiastic about the potential this presents for everyone involved and look forward to the growth and unity it will inspire within our community.

During my upcoming absence, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Father David, who will be tending to the needs of our parish in my stead. His willingness to step in reflects his incredible generosity and commitment to our community. I am deeply thankful in advance for his dedication and support. Rest assured, the ongoing boiler project will not be disrupted. We are steadfast in our efforts to ensure its completion, with the aim of having the work finalized by the end of September. Your unwavering support continues to be the cornerstone of our endeavors, and I am sincerely grateful for your commitment to our parish's growth and well-being. Yours Lovingly~Fr. Rojin

On the 19th Sunday of Ordinary Time in the Catholic Church, the scripture passages of Mt 14:22-33 and 1 Kgs 19:9a, 11-13a converge to offer a profound reflection on faith, doubt, and the transformative power of God's presence. The Gospel reading's account of Peter walking on water only to falter due to doubt reminds us that even when we take bold steps of faith, the challenges of life can shake our belief. Similarly, in the passage from 1 Kings, Elijah encounters God not in the dramatic signs but in the gentle whisper, teaching us that divine encounters often come in moments of quiet introspection. Together, these readings urge us to trust in God amid life's storms, recognizing that faith requires ongoing courage and the ability to discern God's presence in both the spectacular and the ordinary. Just as Peter found stability by fixing his eyes on Jesus, we are invited to anchor our faith in unwavering trust, even when doubts arise, and to seek God's voice amidst life's noise.

I am delighted to provide an update on the progress of our boiler project at St. Jerome. The response from our parishioners has been overwhelming, filled with positivity and excitement. It's truly heartening to hear their perspectives, as they recognize the significance of the boiler project for our parish's future, even more so than the creation of a chapel. I'm pleased to inform you that Bishop has signed a contract with Marasco Heating company, marking a significant step forward. The company's representatives will begin assessing the work this week, and I anticipate that there will be a flurry of activity in the upcoming days and weeks at St. Jerome Church. While we understand that there might be inconveniences during this process, it's important to remember that these temporary challenges will be well worth it once we have an efficient heating and cooling system in place. We kindly request your prayers for the success of the Boiler project. As a reminder, if you were unable to participate in the We Stand with Christ campaign, you still have the opportunity to support the boiler project through donations that reflect your participation and commitment. Your involvement will greatly contribute to the realization of this endeavor, and we are truly grateful for your continued support.

Raffle ticket sales are currently underway, and I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated raffle team for their ongoing efforts in selling tickets and generating funds for the parish. The tremendous support we've received from our parishioners is a promising indication of their unwavering backing for positive developments at St. Jerome Church. Additionally, I kindly urge parents to enroll their children in the enriching faith formation programs, including the REACH program and Middle School Program. We are in the final stages of program details, and as soon as they are ready, we will promptly email the information. Your patience is greatly appreciated.

This shift will not only lead to significant cost savings for our parish but will also provide a user-friendly experience, even for our elderly members. We are eager to implement this change swiftly and eventually phase out the Faith Direct platform. Your understanding and prompt action in this matter are greatly appreciated.

The Transfiguration of the Lord

This weekend, we celebrate the feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord. The Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, based on the Scripture passage of Mt 17:1-9, offers a profound opportunity for reflection on the transformative power of divine revelation. The moment when Jesus took Peter, James, and John up the mountain and was transfigured before them, shining brilliantly with heavenly light, signifies the unveiling of his true nature and glory. This event reminds us of the significance of encountering God's presence in our lives, a moment of spiritual illumination where we see things from a new and clearer perspective. It is a reminder that amidst life's challenges and uncertainties, there are glimpses of divine beauty and purpose that can strengthen our faith and provide the courage to persevere. In our personal lives, practicing the theme of the Transfiguration means seeking moments of prayer and reflection where we can connect with the Divine and allow ourselves to be transformed from within. By cultivating a deeper understanding of God's presence in our lives, we can let go of our fears and doubts and embrace the fullness of our potential, just as Christ revealed his true self to the disciples. Through prayer, self-examination, and a willingness to grow in love and compassion, we can experience our own spiritual transfiguration, becoming more Christ-like in our thoughts, actions, and relationships.

Special Report on Upcoming Boiler Project at St. Jerome

My heart is heavy as I contemplate the upcoming boiler project at St. Jerome Church, for it represents not just a project but the embodiment of our cherished legacy. Built in 1962, our beloved church stands strong, yet the equipment within has aged and grown inefficient, its outdated state becoming evident in February when our loyal boilers, over 30 years in service, finally surrendered, leaving us amidst chaos and flooding. Expert advice left us no choice but to bid farewell to these faithful companions, and the noisy air handlers and inefficient control system further highlighted the urgency of this undertaking. Our oil bills soared, adding to the weight on our hearts. But with determination and hope, we must move forward, securing the church's future for generations to come, keeping its flame of faith alive for another two decades and beyond—a beacon of solace and community in our humble home.

When the realization dawned upon us that there was no alternative but to replace our aging heating and cooling system, we rallied together as a united team, determined to make this project a reality. Under the able leadership of John Valerie, supported by Joe Licek, Bill Sweeney, and John Wagner, we embarked on this crucial mission. The Parish Council and the Finance Council played pivotal roles, working hand in hand to bring the project to fruition swiftly, ensuring our church would be ready to embrace the impending winter. We reached out to four prominent companies in our neighborhood, and after meticulous evaluation, we selected the one best suited for the task. Knowing that this was a significant investment, surpassing $50,000, we appreciated the high-level protection and scrutiny offered by the diocese. The bishop and the diligent team of building commission members, comprising attorneys, architects, engineers, and insurance experts, among others, examined the proposals with utmost care before granting their final approval.

Now, let's delve into the crucial aspect of funding the project, which comes with a substantial price tag of $450,000. Admittedly, it is a massive amount to invest, but we firmly believe that it is an investment that will fortify the strength of our Parish for generations to come. To secure these funds, I took the initiative of reaching out to the donors of the "We Stand with Christ" campaign a few months ago, seeking their permission to redirect the campaign's goal towards the much-needed heating and cooling system for our church. To my immense satisfaction, not a single complaint was received in response, bolstering my confidence in proceeding with the project without asking for additional contributions from our valued supporters. Thanks to their unwavering generosity, we have already amassed over $350,000 from the campaign, which will be dedicated to this vital project. The remaining funds will be sourced from the prudent savings we have diligently accumulated over time. I must take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to all the donors of the "We Stand with Christ" campaign. Without their incredible support, we would have faced an overwhelming fundraising campaign, and our church's very survival could have been at stake. Their kindness and dedication have laid the foundation for a brighter, more sustainable future for our cherished Parish. Following their example, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all the other parishioners who were unable to contribute to the We Stand with Christ campaign and would like to participate in our Boiler project. If you wish to be a part of this project, I invite you to make a contribution to St. Jerome and include a note specifying that it is for the Boiler project. It is important to me that everyone feels included and invested in the success of the project.

Now, let's turn our attention to the next steps that lie ahead. The eagerly awaited moment is upon us as the diocese is set to sign the contract with the vendor this week. It brings immense joy to know that the chosen vendor is none other than Jamie Marasco, a fellow member of our beloved Parish. Jamie's connection to our church goes back to the installation of the previous boilers, a legacy that spans over 30 years. This endeavor holds special significance for Jamie, as he now takes on the responsibility of replacing the old boilers with new ones, marking a milestone in our Parish's journey. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Jamie for his invaluable assistance in understanding the project's needs and guiding us forward.

The work is slated to commence within the next two weeks, and while it may cause some temporary inconvenience, we know it will be well worth it. The project is expected to span over a month, but the anticipation of having a more environmentally friendly system for our Parish is truly exciting. Not only will it save energy, but it will also significantly reduce our carbon footprint. As we witness the commencement of this endeavor, we look forward to a brighter, more sustainable future for our cherished Parish. Together, we embark on this journey, knowing that the positive impact it will have on our community and the environment will be felt for years to come.

As we progress, I will provide updates on additional details. I believe everyone is eager to witness the positive impact this will have on the parish building and its experience. Let us pray together for this to be a blessing and allow us to continue our worship for years to come. I express my gratitude for your continued support, love, and prayers. Yours Lovingly - Fr. Rojin.

17th Sunday in Ordinary Time

As we approach the 17th Sunday of Ordinary Time, the Gospel and the first reading present a powerful and timely message for our personal reflection. Both passages emphasize the significance of seeking true wisdom from God and living our lives in accordance with His divine guidance. The Gospel passage encourages us to recognize the incomparable value of God's kingdom and be willing to prioritize it above all else. Meanwhile, the first reading highlights the importance of humbly seeking wisdom from God to make righteous decisions. In reflecting on the scripture passages of Matthew 13:44-46 and 1st Kings 3:5, 7-12, I am struck by the profound message of prioritizing and seeking true wisdom and the kingdom of God. In Matthew, the parables of the hidden treasure and the pearl of great value emphasize the incomparable worth of God's kingdom. Just like the merchants who joyfully sold everything they had to possess these treasures, we are reminded to wholeheartedly pursue and invest in our relationship with God, putting Him above all else. Meanwhile, in the 1st Kings, Solomon's humble request for wisdom over personal gain demonstrates the right attitude towards leadership and decision-making. It teaches us that God honors those who seek His guidance sincerely, seeking wisdom to discern between right and wrong.

With the upcoming raffle just around the corner, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Jack O'Melia and the entire team for their tireless efforts in organizing and promoting this event. I was particularly impressed by Jack's captivating presentation during last week's masses, which emphasized the significance of the raffle for our church community. This year, we have an exciting plan in store as the raffle will coincide with the parish festival, promising to be a joyous occasion on October 8th. One of the festival's highlights will be the diverse and scrumptious food from various cultures, following the theme of "We Are the World."

It's crucial to remember that the proceeds from the raffle hold great significance for our parish. This year's funds will be dedicated to replacing the roof of our rectory. While we were asked to consider replacing it five years ago, diligent maintenance allowed us to prolong its life. Now, with the proceeds from this year's raffle, we can finally undertake this much-needed project, ensuring the rectory's durability for another 25 years.

I wholeheartedly encourage everyone to actively participate in various ways to ensure the resounding success of this year's raffle. Whether it's joining teams to sell tickets, purchasing tickets yourselves, or contributing in any other creative manner, your involvement is vital in making this event truly exceptional. Together, let us unite our efforts and enthusiasm to support our church community, knowing that every contribution, big or small, plays a significant role in achieving our goals. Let's come together as one, embracing the spirit of giving, and make this raffle an unforgettable triumph for our parish. You can buy raffle tickets from our newly launched website, through the mail, and after weekend masses.

We are seeking assistance with stuffing envelopes for sending out our raffle mailing to all our parishioners of St. Jerome. If any of you can spare some time after daily Mass on Monday (9:30 AM), please come to the office and lend a hand. Your help in this task will be greatly appreciated as it will enable us to send out the envelopes promptly to all the recipients. Together, let's ensure a smooth distribution process and make this raffle a wonderful event for our community.

Once again thank you for your continued support and dedication to our parish. Yours lovingly ~ Fr. Rojin

In Matthew chapter 13; 24-43, Jesus shares several parables, including the Parable of the Weeds and the Parable of the Mustard Seed. These passages convey profound messages relevant to the 16th Sunday of Ordinary Time. The Parable of the Weeds reminds us that amidst the challenges and struggles in life, goodness and evil coexist, and God's judgment will ultimately separate them. On this Sunday, we are called to reflect on our actions and strive to grow as faithful servants, like the mustard seed that grows into a tree. It's a time to embrace the potential of small beginnings and nurture our faith with love and compassion. Let this message inspire us to stay resilient, knowing that even amidst difficulties, God's love and grace will prevail, transforming our lives and the world around us.

We are excited to announce the implementation of our new online giving platform for Saint Jerome Church. After careful consideration, we have decided to make the significant move from Faith Direct to Our Sunday Visitor giving platform. This decision was guided by three crucial reasons.

Firstly, by transitioning to this new platform, we anticipate saving over $6,000 annually, which can be allocated to further support our parish and its mission.

Secondly, Our Sunday Visitor, a reputable Catholic company that serves churches nationwide, will oversee managing this giving platform, ensuring reliability and seamless integration with our website.

Finally, this new platform provides our kind-hearted donors with convenient access to their giving information through the website, enabling them to effortlessly monitor and handle their donations.

We believe this upgrade will enhance our ability to manage the digital needs of our community efficiently, fostering a deeper sense of stewardship and connection among our parishioners. We look forward to this positive change as we continue to strengthen our faith community together.

With the changes in our giving platform, we kindly request your attention to this important message. Please take a moment to visit our website and navigate to the ‘GIVING’ tab, following the instructions provided there to create your online giving account. Don't forget to save your email address and password, as this will enable you to access the website conveniently and make any required giving changes whenever necessary. We understand that this may involve some additional effort on your part, but we assure you that it will be a tremendous blessing for our Parish moving forward. Should you have any inquiries or need assistance, Natalie from our office is more than willing to help you set up your account and make any needed adjustments. Your cooperation and understanding are greatly appreciated, and together, let's make this transition happen as soon as possible, strengthening our Parish community and advancing our shared mission. Thank you for your support!

I extend my heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support, affection, and concern. Yours Lovingly ~ Fr. Rojin.

Sunday in Ordinary Time. Matthew 13:1-23 presents the well-known Parable of the Sower, a profound teaching shared by Jesus. This passage invites us to reflect on the condition of our hearts as we receive and respond to God's word. The sower represents God, generously scattering seeds of truth and grace upon various types of soil, symbolizing different dispositions of human hearts. Some hearts may be hardened like a path, where the word cannot take root, while others may be shallow or thorny, hindering its growth. Yet, there are hearts like good soil that receive the word with openness and bear abundant fruit. This parable challenges us to examine our receptivity to God's message and prompts us to cultivate a fertile heart, receptive to His word, nurturing it with understanding, perseverance, and an eagerness to bear fruit in our lives.

This weekend is our Co-op Mission Sunday. We don’t have a speaker this year. However, I invite you to read the diocesan invitation to contribute to the mission. In the Diocese of Bridgeport, all the contributions gathered will be pooled and sent to support the missions equally. This collaborative system ensures that our support reaches those in need effectively. Thank you for considering donating to the mission appeal. We will be holding a second collection this weekend for the appeal. I am truly grateful for your continued support, care, and generosity in furthering the global mission of the Church.

The biblical passage of Matthew 11:25-30 encourages us to approach God with humility and childlike faith and to prioritize our relationship with Him above worldly pursuits. Jesus offers rest for our tired souls and invites us to surrender our burdens to Him, so that we may participate in His work of love and compassion. We can find true rest through a deep relationship with Jesus, which leads to transformation and freedom. Let us respond to His invitation by seeking moments of prayer, gratitude, and self-reflection, and sharing His message with others on our faith journey.

Next weekend, we have our Co-op Mission Sunday, an event where we traditionally welcome speakers from different parts of the world to share their experiences of missionary work in their respective dioceses. This time, we may or may not have a guest speaker, but we will still have a special second collection to support their vital ministries. St. Jerome has always been known for its generosity towards missionaries, and we continue to uphold that tradition. I kindly request your support for this significant endeavor, as it aligns with the mission Jesus entrusted to us—to spread His message across the globe. Together, we can make a difference in supporting these important missions.

The Gospel passage from Matthew 10:37-42, chosen for the 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time, addresses the theme of discipleship and the demands it places on believers. Jesus speaks to his disciples, emphasizing the radical nature of following him. Jesus urges His disciples to prioritize their commitment to Him above even their closest family relationships. This passage calls for a practical understanding for us, reminding us that genuine discipleship requires wholehearted dedication to Christ. It challenges believers to reflect on their priorities, ensuring that nothing or no one takes precedence over their love for God. While emphasizing the importance of family, it encourages us to love and serve others in the light of their love for God. This entails living out our faith authentically, and making choices that align with our commitment to Christ, even if it involves sacrifice and stepping outside our comfort zones. Practically, this can be achieved through deepening one's relationship with Christ through prayer, scripture, and the sacraments, discerning God's will, and aligning actions with His teachings. Embracing opportunities to share Christ's love and message with others is also vital, as our witness can have transformative power. Ultimately, this passage highlights the challenging yet fulfilling journey of discipleship, emphasizing the need to surrender completely to Christ to experience His boundless love and become instruments of His grace in the world.

Now, as he takes on greater responsibilities in collaboration with the Bishop, let us unite in prayer for Steven. May he be equipped with the necessary skills, wisdom, and guidance to fulfill his new position effectively. May his efforts in developing, implementing, and facilitating projects focused on encounter and accompaniment through "The One" bring about positive and transformative outcomes for the faithful in the diocese.

It is the 12th Sunday in Ordinary Time. The gospel reading of the weekend, Matthew 10:26-33 presents a powerful message of trust, courage, and unwavering faith in the face of adversity. The passage reminds us that the truth will ultimately prevail, despite attempts to hide or distort it. It encourages believers to be fearless in proclaiming the Gospel, knowing that God's wisdom and justice will be revealed. As followers of Christ, we are called to embrace our identity as witnesses, acknowledging that our worth lies not in the approval or acceptance of others, but in the knowledge that God sees and values us deeply. This passage offers solace and reassurance, assuring us that our Heavenly Father cares for us intimately and is aware of every aspect of our lives. In a world filled with uncertainties and challenges, Matthew 10:26-33 calls us to remain steadfast, trusting in God's providence and promising us that those who acknowledge Christ on earth will be acknowledged by Him in heaven.

We are excited to announce that the Confirmation date at St. Jerome Church has been set for September 29th, a Friday, at 6:00 p.m. Due to a new diocesan requirement of a minimum of 40 candidates, we have collaborated with St. Philip's Church to hold the ceremony, as it can accommodate around 750 people. As part of the diocesan directive, confirmations will no longer be held on Sundays to ensure minimal conflict with mass participation. Bishop Caggiano will preside over this year’s confirmation, which will take place within the Liturgy of the Word. We kindly request all parents to save the date and spiritually prepare their children for this significant sacrament. Let us come together as a community to support and celebrate our candidates as they receive the sacrament of Confirmation this Fall.

At St. Jerome, we are wrapping up our activities and preparing for a more relaxed summer period. However, I want to share some exciting news with you. Our dedicated raffle team has been hard at work planning an upcoming event on October 8th, which is a Sunday. This year's raffle will be focused on raising funds for the renewal of our heating and cooling system. We are currently in contact with various companies to receive proposals for this complex and thrilling project. We will provide updates regarding the project's progress in the near future. I kindly request everyone to consider participating in the raffle in any way possible. Participation in the raffle can take various forms, and we invite everyone to get involved and lend their support. You can participate by selling raffle tickets, buying tickets yourself, joining the cooking team to help with food preparations, joining the games planning team to organize fun activities, or offering your assistance in setting up the venue for the celebration. There are many ways to contribute, and we need people to join in various areas where they can offer their helping hand. Your involvement and support will make a significant difference as we come together as a community to ensure the success of this event. Let's join forces and work towards a bright future for our church.

The solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ, also known as Corpus Christi, is a profound occasion that invites us to reflect on the deep meaning and significance of the Eucharist in our lives. The weekend gospel passage is Jn 6, 51-58. As we meditate on this passage, we are reminded of the powerful words of Jesus when he said, "I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world." In these verses, Jesus emphasizes the intimate connection between himself and the Eucharist. He invites us to partake in his body and blood, not only as a symbol or representation but as a profound and mysterious reality. It is through the Eucharist that we enter true communion with Christ, where we are nourished by his divine life and united with him in a transformative way. The solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ compels us to approach the Eucharist with reverence, awe, and gratitude. It is a moment to acknowledge the profound gift that Jesus offers us, his very self, and to open our hearts to receive him fully. In this sacrament, we encounter the presence of Christ, who gives us the strength, grace, and sustenance needed to navigate our earthly journey.

We invite you to participate in a make-up session of "The One" program, an initiative promoted by Bishop Caggiano that holds great significance for our parish and the entire diocese. During his presentation, the Bishop shared an inspiring vision of parish renewal, diocesan unity, and cooperation centered on holiness and vibrant communities. He emphasized the concept of "encounter and accompaniment" as the foundation of this vision. In pursuit of this vision, the Bishop introduced "The One" as a challenge that requires faith and focus. He called for all diocesan ministries, offices, and programs to align their efforts toward the goal of renewing and revitalizing our parishes and schools. These places of encounter and engagement have the power to transform lives and foster a culture of holiness. The make-up session takes place at St. Philip on June 14 at 6:30 PM. Please let our office know if you plan to attend.

This weekend we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity is a profound celebration in the Christian liturgical calendar that invites us to contemplate the mystery of God's triune nature. As we reflect on the scripture passage from John 3:16-18, we are reminded of the depth of God's love and His desire for our salvation.

In these verses, Jesus declares that God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him may have eternal life. This passage encapsulates the essence of the Trinity, showcasing the boundless love of the Father, the sacrificial gift of the Son, and the invitation to faith and redemption through the Holy Spirit. Contemplating the Most Holy Trinity reveals the dynamic relationship within God Himself, an eternal communion of love and unity. It invites us to ponder the mystery of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as distinct persons yet inseparably united in essence. Moreover, the passage emphasizes that God did not send His Son to condemn the world, but to save it. This reminds us of the immense mercy and compassion of God, who reaches out to humanity in love and offers the gift of eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ.

The celebration of the Most Holy Trinity encourages us to embrace the love of God, to deepen our understanding of His divine nature, and to respond with gratitude and faith. It calls us to enter into a relationship with the Triune God and to share His love and salvation with others.
