The first issue of the St. Jerome newsletter, the Translator, appeared in May 1972 and originally was sponsored by the Parish Advisory Council which itself was then but one year old. A link to that first 1972 issue appears on the Archived Issues page. The Translator continued in quarterly, then semi-annual issues until 2001 (with some gaps in the early 1990s), before the Pastoral Council re-introduced it in December 2006. See the bottom of this page for a link to Recent Issues.
As the first issue in 1972 put it, “The Council has felt from the beginning that a communication device such as a newsletter was needed to bring greater unity to our Christian community. We hope to provide on a periodic basis a readable, interesting, and meaningful publication.
“…The name Translator is very appropriate for our parish, as this was indeed one of St. Jerome’s roles in the early church; he translated the Bible from the original Hebrew into Greek and Latin. We hope this newsletter will be the first step toward a better ‘translation’ of the feelings of all our parishioners. Once we begin to do this, we honestly feel we can then concentrate with ever greater strength on our primary concerns of serving God and loving our fellow man.”
With the same purpose in mind, the re-introduced, semi-annual Translator newsletter is an effort, like that of the parish web site, to reach more people in our community and make them aware of the available resources of St. Jerome parish.
